Is My Website Down?

The internet can be a rough place sometimes and there are people out there who are only too happy to ruin your day by taking your website offline so whenever our webservers see any kind of activity that isn't normal they will block any connections from that location. They do this by putting the user's IP address onto a blacklist.

Once on the blacklist they can no longer attempt to hack the server or indeed see anything on the server at all - including websites.

Are you on the blacklist?

If you are having difficulty seeing your website in your browser or are getting 'website not found' or similar as an error message the first thing you need to do is see if the problem is just you or if there is a problem with the server itself.

To do that we suggest that you go to the website https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com.

Simply enter your domain name into the box and it will tell you if the problem is just with you (therefore it's likely you are on the blacklist) or if the website is actually down for everyone (in which case the problem is possibly more serious and we are working to resolve it).

Down for everyone?

If the website is down for everyone then you can rest assured that the problem is likely already being resolved. We host many sites on our servers and so an outage or problem with a server will be spotted fairly quickly and action will have been taken to resolve the issue by our hosting team.

If the server is offline then feel free to call us and we will let you know what the current situation is but in most cases the server will have simply been restarted and as this process can take several minutes you may have to wait a few minutes before the server is back up and running.

It's just you!

If your website is still up and running for everyone else but you cannot access it then the likelihood is that you have had your IP address blacklisted. This is because some device on your local network has been trying unsuccessfully to access the server with an incorrect password and as a security measure you have been denied access. This is the case for most of the time when clients can't see their website and in our experience is normally due to a device using an incorrect email password and trying to access the mail server repeatedly so it looks to the server like a hacking attempt.

There is no way for you to get yourself off the blacklist without contacting us directly. So in the first instance you should discover which IP address you are accessing the internet with as we will need that information. This is the IP address that will have been blacklisted and so we will need to know which one it is so we can remove it from the blacklist.

Finding your IP address?

Finding your IP address is easy. Simply go to https://www.google.com and type into the box 'what is my IPv4 address'. To make it even easier you can even click here https://www.whatismyip.com and simply look for the set of numbers that represent your IPv4 address.

Simply copy that set of numbers down and email that to us at support@rocket301.co.uk. Once we have the IP address that you are using and cannot see your website from we will ask the hosting team to check the blacklist and if your IP address is present we will ask them to remove it so you can see the website again.

Obviously you should ensure that any devices at your location are using the correct passwords otherwise you run the risk of getting blacklisted again but at least you know what to do next time.
